If the thought of built up dirt and bacteria lurking in the corners of your home is enough to irk you, then there are a few places to clean in your house that you might have just missed.
Places to clean in your house that are often overlooked
Today, we’re covering the not so obvious areas to clean in your home. The places and things everyone always forgets to clean. You know, the most overlooked and unexpected places we all just miss during our usual cleaning routine.
Behind the furniture and appliances
Any large pieces of furniture or appliances are usually cleaned around, not behind. Pull these items out of their usual spots to clean behind them. These things include the…
- Stove
- Laundry machine and dryer
- Bed
- Fridge
- Couch
- Toilet (since you can’t move the toilet, clean the tiles and area behind it with a long brush or sponge handle)
On top of fixtures
Dust accumulates on top of fixtures and shelves overtime. But, out of sight, out of mind, right? Since you can’t see or reach these areas, they’re easy to miss. Places to clean on top of:
- Ceiling fans
- Top kitchen shelves and on top of kitchen cabinets
- Fridge
- Ceiling vents
- Frames and mirror edges
Doorknobs and cabinet handles
We touch our doorknobs and cabinet handles a lot. Like, a lot a lot.
Disinfect your doorknobs and cabinet handles every now and then to keep things sanitized.
Trash can and recycling bins
Soak your trash can and recycling bins with warm water and soap, and let them sit for a few hours.
Afterwards, rinse out the bins with a hose.
Baseboards
Another area that accumulates with dust pretty quickly: your baseboards.
Wipe down your baseboards and clean them at the same time you mop your floors to save time.
Front and back door
The outside surface of your doors can get pretty dirty – especially after a season of snow and rain.
Wash down your doors with a sponge and warm water, and ta da! Back to solid color they originally were.
Throw pillows
Toss your throw pillows in the washing machine at least once a month to remove any bacteria build up.
Invest in covers that can be removed and hand-washed to keep things clean if your throw pillows can’t be washed.
Upholstered furniture
Vacuum the couches, chairs, and any furniture around the house that’s upholstered.
Spray with an odor eliminator to keep things clean and smelling fresh.
The shower curtain
Wash your shower curtains regularly to remove the build up of scum and other dirt.
If you have glass doors, use a squeegee to wipe off the water and keep the glass clean.
Other things and places to clean in your house
A few additional places to clean in your house that often get missed, are:
- The walls
- The crawl space or storage area
- Window sills
- Doormats
- Back walls and floors of closets
- Curtains
